Many soldiers have been killed in the fight against Boko Haram and many are still sacrificing their lives just to keep us safe from this insurgency.

These national heroes have exhibited discipline, gallantry, bravery, patriotism, selfless service, commitment and clear understanding of the battle space and what was at stake to ensured various successes recorded in operations against Bokom Haram.

Though thousands of soldiers have been killed in the war against Boko haram,these 40 persons are representation of both the known and unknown gladiators who have sacrificed their blood for the safety of this country. These are war heroes, who knew nothing more than service to the nation.

1.Major K. Yakubu

A fine gentleman and Officer par excellence. who died recently as a result of faulty vehicles which hinder the troops and gave the Boko Haram the opportunity to strike

The military commander was killed after decimating Boko Haram camp in Doron Naira, an island in Lake Chad, and Nigerian border area of Baga.He died in May 2020

2. Chimezie Timothy

He died on 4th May 2020 on the battle field between Nigeria military and Boko Haram.

3.Oluwatoyin Ogunleye

She is a graduate of Tai Solarin College of Education, she joined the Nigeria army in 2013, She was a gallant officer of the Nigerian Army.

While defending her nation fearlessly, She was captured and later killed by Boko haram in Baga, Borno state.

4. Ishmael Chukwuka

He was killed on his birthday. His wife wished him happy birthday on facebook not knowing that his husband has bitten the dust. He died in April 2020

5. Late Iliya Jacob

Jacob is one of the Nigerian soldiers battling the boko haram in the North-East.

He got married to his heartthrob on 14th December, 2019 but was killed by boko haram in January 2020, just a month and few weeks after his wedding.

6. Aliyu Umar

Aliyu Umar is from Mutum-Biyu Community He died recently.

7&8 The Onubah Brothers

They are from Ifite-Oraifite in Anambra State. Lt FK Onubah was killed in an ambush by Boko Haram in May 2014 while his brother died same way years later.

9.Captain S.O Ojo

The Nigerian army captain was killed by Boko Haram in 2018 Maiduguri.

 10 .Captain J. O Nwaogu

Captain Abdulazzez was killed last year when Boko Haram terrorists ambushed soldiers in Jakana town, Borno State.

13. Captain Ikechukwu Ohakwe

14.M. Medawa

The Nigerian Army Lieutenant who would have become Captain ,was killed in Sambisa forest in the “clearance” operation declared by the Chief of Army Staff, Yusuf Buratai.

15.Captain Victor Ugochukwu Ulasi

A medical doctor and graduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka.He was killed during Boko Haram attack on an Army base in Buni Yadi, Yobe State.

17. Lt. Col. Mohammed Abu Ali

Until his death, the award wining officer fondly called Sarki Yaki was the Commanding Officer, 272 Task Force Battalion at Malam Fatori in Northern Borno State. He is survived by his father, Etsu Bassa Nge, Brig Gen Abu Ali (rtd), wife, and three children.

His understanding of military regimentation, command and control structure as well as exemplary leadership ensured that his troops respected him; and senior commanders at strategic and command levels had confidence in him. He earned accelerated promotion and Chief of Army Staff, (COAS’s) Award for Exceptional Bravery and Excellence .

18.Late Colonel Kabiru Salisu

A respected troop commander and fine gentleman and officer par excellence. He was killed when his armoured personnel carrier (APC) was attacked by Boko Haram militants. His vehicle which came under a barrage of artillery fire, burst into flames killing him and others in the vehicle.

19.Lieuitanant Gaius Garba

He was killed in an ambush by Bokoharam.

20.Hakeem Muhammad

He was born in 1992.After three attempt at getting enlisted in the Nigerian Army,he eventually succeeded in the fourth attempt.

After three near death encounters ,he was eventually killed together with 15 other soldiers in May 2019.

21.Lt Col Ibrahim Sakaba

He was part of the 44 soldiers killed by Boko haram during an attack on 157 battalion in Matele .The rampaging terrorist overran an the army battalion.

22.Lt. Dashe

He is from Jos, Plateau State. He was killed in line of duty, three months after his wedding introduction. Boko Haram insurgents ambushed a military convoy at Boboshe village in Bama local government area of Borno.

23. Airborne Airforce Flight Lieutenant Ohai Idionijie

24. Lt Shittu Kyom Leo

He was killed in early July 2014. The late Leo was set to marry on the 20th of August, 2014 in Kaduna, his state of origin. Reportedly a former student of ECWA Staff School in Jos, Plateau State, he left the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria when he was a 2nd year student of history to attend the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).SK Leo was due to be married to Angela Gaiya on the 30th of August. His burial was on the 17th July, 2014.

25. Lance Corporal David Usman

On the 8th of June, 2014, his mother, 55-year-old Mrs. Sarai Usman cried out that the Nigerian Federal Government has neglected them. The late Usman was aged 37 when he was killed and he left two children and a wife as at the time he was killed. The first child was aged three while the second one was six months. His wife was six months pregnant and he never saw his son before Boko Haram killed him.

26. L/Cpl David Hope Kingsley (Davido)

27 . Major Solomon Kabiru Umar

He was killed on Wednesday, 17th December, 2014 during a battle with Boko Haram in Adamawa. He had recently been posted to the battlefront and he announced to his friends that he was ready for whatever outcome

28.Charles Victor Uchenna Ilo

He, was bracing up for a battle with Boko Haram on lovers’ day. In his high spirits, he wrote on Facebook: “Well, nothing more 2say, we are going back 2 recapture monguno base .He eventually died same day.

29. Msjor Samuel Jega Kanady Dalaky

The late Major Dalaky was killed in April 2013 in Yobe State. Popularly known as Major Dalaky amongst his friends and colleagues, he hailed from Gombe State. An old boy of the Nigerian Military School, NMS, Zaria, he was a member of the 50th Regular Course at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna State. He was survived by two children and his wife. His family spoke out against any amnesty offer to the Boko Haram terrorists.

30. Captain Benjamin Toyring Sule

He was killed on the 4th of August, 2014 while in the line of duty during an ambush by Boko Haram in Bama, Borno State. He married his bride in November 2013 and was posted to Borno in May 2014. Sule is survived by parents, siblings and his wife.

31. Corporal Duke Ebosele

Ebosele was killed on Sunday, 3rd of August 2014 while fighting Boko Haram terrorists. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and three boys.

32. Flight Lt Onyeka Nwakile (Nigerian Air Force)

Nwakile died in July 2014 when a Mi-35 helicopter of the Nigerian Air Force crashed in Bama, Borno State. The Nigerian military said the chopper was on a training mission. Nwakile was the only one who died in the crash while Flight Lieutenant NM Halilu, the co-pilot, and Warrant Officer Augustine Nwanonenyi, the aircraft technician, survived.

33. Captain Musa Aliu

He was killed in August 2014.

34. Wing Commander Chimda Hedima

He was beheaded by Boko Haram after his aircraft crashed.

35. Obinna Izuala

23-year-old Obinna Izuala was killed in Borno on the 25th of September, 2014 during a shootout with Boko Haram in Konduga. He was a native of Ndiagbo in Enugu State.

36. Lieutanant Mayowa Areago

He was killed on the 9th of November, 2014 while he was retreating from a mission to combat Boko Haram. He reportedly graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 2012 and was immediately deployed to the north to fight Boko Haram.

37. Captain Ayo Oloruntoba

A native of Ilorin, Kwara State, Oloruntoba was killed in an ambush in Adamawa State in December 2014.

38. Captain Sani Daura Salisu

He was killed near Hong, Adamawa State by a suicide bomber in December 2014.

39.Major Ayangbesan

He was also killed by the terrorist

40.Lt A.K Shekoni

He is the only son of his parent .He also died from a bokoharam ambush.
