Today’s Headlines: Another Politicain Defect To APC, PDP Begs Goodluck Jonathan In Abuja
Six members of the Anambra State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the forthcoming November 6 governorship election in the state.
Chairman APC caretaker and extraordinary convention planning committee (CECPC) and Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, have received the lawmakers and immediately presented them with the APC flag at the end of a strategic meeting held behind-closed-doors.
PDP Visits Goodluck Jonathan
Nigeria’s leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, has reached out to former President Goodluck Jonathan not to abandon the party amid a thickening plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress to field him for the presidency in 2023.
The acting National Chairman of the PDP, Yemi Akinwonmi, alongside some other leaders of the party paid a visit to Jonathan in his residence in Abuja.
Those on Akinwonmi’s delegation included Daisi Akintan, the former caretaker secretary of the PDP in the South-West and the secretary of ex-officio forum and a member of the National Executive Committee, Helen Taiwo.
The three-member team met with the former President behind closed doors but it was gathered that the visit was designed to acquaint Jonathan with current happenings within the party and seek his advice on how best to find an amicable solution to the crisis.
Anambra Ripe For APC Takeover – Governor Buni
Anambra is ripe for the All Progressives Congress to take over the rein of power, says its chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe.
“Anambra is ripe for us, and we will work together for victory,” said Mr. Buni.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance is currently in power in Anambra, with Willie Obiano as the governor.
Bruni spoke to State House correspondents after President Muhammadu Buhari formally received the APC governorship candidate in the state, Andy Ubah.
Mr. Buhari had also revealed his desire for APC to take over power in Anambra.
The APC chairman added that efforts were in progress to unite aggrieved members of the party.
“I Want Andy Uba To Win Anambra Election” -Buhari
“I am happy to formally welcome you,” President Muhammadu Buhari tells Andy Uba, the APC governorship candidate in the November 6 Anambra election.
In a Tuesday statement, the president’s media aide Femi Adesina quoted Mr. Buhari to have stated this when he formally received Mr. Uba as APC candidate in the forthcoming election.
Mr. Uba was accompanied by the APC chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni. Others present at the event included Governors Gboyega Oyetola of Osun, Yahaya Bello of Kogi, and Hope Uzodimma of Imo (the chairman of the Campaign Council for the Anambra November gubernatorial election).
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and George Akume, Minister for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, were also in attendance.
The APC is keen on taking over the rein of power across the predominantly Igbo South-East states. The Igbos have often accused Mr. Buhari of marginalizing the region. The president has done little to refute the claim with his infamous statement that he would support states according to the percentage of their votes in his favor.
