The US Government Apprehend Another Rich Young Nigerian For Over 1 Billion Naira Fraud
The cases of fraud, most especially internet fraud which we call Yahoo-Yahoo, have been on an alarming rate in our present society. With the made involvement of Nigerians in this fraudulent acts, the image of the nation is constantly been tarnished. Another case of fraud has been exposed, which involves another Hush Puppy.
The Nigerian who goes by the name, Bamidele Muraina, was accused of hacking into the tax system of the US government and filled fraudulent unemployment benefit claims and tax returns using stolen personally identifiable information. The 35-year-old scammer, Bamidele, who also goes by Dele Ewe, has an accomplice who comes from Zambia named Gabriel Kalembo.
The two individuals were report to have defrauded the Employment Security Department of Washington State of over 2.6 million dollar, which in Nigerian currency is well over a Billion Naira. The Attorney general acting in place of the US government said the fund they stole budgeted for a program to help American who are financially down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The two fraudsters were said to have hacked into the Unemployment Insurance claim and filled the system with identities of individual who they scammed. Their activity did not only target government agency but also individuals.
Fortunately, due to the combined effort from several agencies, they were able to apprehend them. The Special Agent in Charge, Steven Baisel from U.S. Secret Service Atlanta Field Office, he made it clear that justice has been served, and that they have been persecuted. They were sentenced to 70 months of imprisonment as penalty for their crimes.
