Oprah Winfrey: Skin colour remark ‘not Queen nor Duke’

Oprah Winfrey has said Prince Harry clarified it had been neither the Queen nor the Duke of Edinburgh who questioned what his son’s complexion would be.

Winfrey told CBS News on Monday the prince “did not tell me who was a part of those conversations”.

The revelation that a loved one wondered “how dark” Archie’s complexion could be came during a TV interview that aired overnight within the US.

The Duchess of Sussex had described the remarks as a coffee point.

“He didn’t share the identity with me but he wanted to form sure I knew, and if I had a chance to share it, that it had been not his grandmother or grandfather that were a part of those conversations,” Winfrey said.

When asked for further details on Monday, Winfrey said she “tried to urge that answer on camera and off” but the prince didn’t elaborate.

She told CBS This Morning that she was shocked to listen to about the complexion remarks during the interview. “Even on the take, you’ll hear me go, ‘whoa I cannot believe you’re saying this now’.”

When asked why she thinks the couple agreed to talk together with her , Winfrey said she felt they “were able to do it” after having been “lied about for a series of years”.

“I said to my team, the foremost important question to be answered here at the top of this show are going to be , ‘why did they leave’?” Winfrey said.

“And i feel the stories of blindsiding the Queen were very damaging to them and also hurtful because they understood clearly that there had been months and months of preparation.”

CBS has also shared new clips from the couple’s three hour interview with the talk show host.

In one, when asked by Winfrey if the couple left the united kingdom due to racism, Prince Harry said that “was an outsized a part of it”.

In another clip discussing how the united kingdom press treated other members of the royalty , Meghan told Winfrey that “rude and racist aren’t the same”.

“You’ve also had a press team that goes on the record to defend you especially once they know something’s not true, which didn’t happen for us,” the duchess said.

Winfrey also asked Prince Harry if any relations had apologised to him for the explanations he felt he had to go away .

Prince Harry replied, “sadly not”.

“The feeling is that this was our decision therefore the results are on us.”
