Meet Two Popular Nigerian Women Who Are Christians But Married To Muslim Men
When it comes to marriage, it is normal for people to have individual differences. These differences can stem from culture, family background or religion. A marriage becomes successful when partners know how to manage their differences properly. This write-up is about two former first ladies who are Christians but they found love in men who are Muslims and their marriages have continued to blossom.
1 Abimbola Fashola
Abimbola Fashola is the wife of Babatunde Raji Fashola who was the governor of Lagos state from 29th of May 2007-29th of May 2015. In a recent Instagram live interview with Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the former first lady talked about how her she has been able to manage the religious difference that exists between her and her husband.
She mentioned that as Christian she has been able to practice her religion effortlessly despite being married to a Muslim.
Read what she said below:
“I am a Christian, my husband is a Muslim. It depends on what you believe in; not marrying someone that is not of the same religion is a man-made law. Love in the Bible is unconditional. If Jesus Christ himself came for only the believers, then he would not have any new disciples. We must always apply knowledge and wisdom in marriage. You won’t win new souls if you are only speaking to those who are redeemed. One day, we will get there. For example, as a Christian, my own belief is that you should not spare the rod because you must discipline your children. My husband who is a Muslim also believes in the same thing. The children we are raising now are different; all you need to do is to encourage your children in the way of Lord.
2 Florence Ajimobi.
Florence Ajimobi is the wife of the former governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi. He was the governor of Oyo state from 29th of May 2011 to 29th of May 2019. Just like Abimbola Fashola, she talked about how she has been able to handle her marriage successfully despite being married to a Muslim man. She made this revelation recently in an Instagram live session with Morayo Afolabi-Brown.
She said, “When I met my husband he was a Christian; he had to be a Christian to marry me. He told me he was a Christian and we got married. After that, he went back to Islam. However, it has not changed anything in my family. He doesn’t disturb me from practicing my religion, I know my boundaries; my girls are Christians, it is just my son who changed to Islam when he fell in love with a Muslim girl; I cannot condemn him because my husband is also a Muslim. I am happy to be married to a Muslim; this Muslim is one with a difference.”
These beautiful women have been married to their husbands for decades and they have been able to make their marriage work; despite the differences in their religion. Single ladies can learn a thing or two from them.
