It was a very dark and solemn night. The brilliance of the sunlight was overshadowed by the solitude of the dark sky.
The classroom was so silent that I could hear my heart as it pumps both blood and fear through my body.
I was thrown into a dilemma- to either sleep on the rough chairs in the unsafe class where I was, or walk through the path of the shadow of death in the bush that leads to my hostel.
Without further hesitation after I chose the deep blue sea over the devil, I packed my books into my bag, hung the bag on my back, and climbed down through the stair case to run to my hostel in the middle of the night.
While on my way, I fixed my earpiece tightly into my ears and played several songs.
I was very scared, yet walked confidently because I believed I would scare off evilmen if I walked as I did.
While I was halfway between the classroom and my hostel, a very bright torchlight flased me from the bush by my left hand side.
Instantly, I felt like I had made the wrong decision. I knew I was going to get screwed for my inability to choose rightly.
I didnt want to run as I felt that would make me to get pursued after. While I was still thinking of what to do, I gently removed my earpeice from my ears, switched off my phone to prevent it from beeping.
As I decided to walk away and act like I was courageous, another ray of light brighter than the first flashed me again, but this time, from the bush by my right hand side. Immediately, more fear gripped me tightly, and I knew that I was in an ambush.
Without further hesitation, I began to walk towards my hostel, but, at a faster pace.
I did not turn neither left nor right till I got to the part of the road where there were houses. As soon as I saw those houses, I ran as fast as I could.
In less than three minutes, I was at the hostel gate. Normally, it would take about thirty minutes to get to my hostel on foot.
However, it did not take me as long as that that night due to the extra energy I was given by fear.
With joy in my heart, I opened the door of my room, went into the room, gulped some water, and layed on my bed with a great feeling of relieve.
I said some words to myself while asleep either through my dream or whatever means it was.
“Does it have to be this way?”
Gradually, I gained consciousness from sleep. I looked through the window and saw many students outside with sorrows boldly stamped on them. I heard several voices talking solemly.
“God will vindcate the dead.”
“Justice will surely prevail”
For a while, I was confused if I actually mumbled words in my dream or I was too asleep that I thought the words said by the students outside my room were said by me in the dream.
To be continued soon.
