Once the Ballon d’Or is mentioned, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo come to mind.
Since 2008, it seems other nominees have been included only to see them these two still winning the award a record five times each.
But looking beyond these two, there are spectacular players in football today and Africa is super excited to have Mohamed Salah repping us consistently.
The 25-year-old is on a record-breaking spree which we’re not sure will come to an end soon.
Recently, he matched Samuel Eto’s record for the most Champions League goals scored by an African, broke Didier Drogba’s record for the most goals scored in a single campaign by an African, beat Messi to 30 league goals and broke Ronaldo’s record for most Premier League games with a goal in a single season!
For these feats, the Premier League Golden Boot – which we’re sure is exclusively his this season – isn’t enough recognition.
He deserves a nomination for the Ballon d’Or this year, and should he be on the list he’ll make a strong rival to Messi and Ronaldo.
