Ex-teacher gets 7 years in prison for sex with juvenile detention inmate.
A former Colorado teacher who admitted having sex with a juvenile detention center inmate has been sentenced to seven years in the slammer.
Maggie Christine Stastny, a 33-year-old former educator at Marvin W. Foote Youth Services Center in Centennial, was sentenced Monday in Arapahoe County District Court after pleading guilty in March to one count of sexual exploitation of a child, KUSA reported.
Stastny, who was married at the time, told a sergeant she had sex with the underage male inmate twice in May 2019, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by the station.
The pair then met up a month later to have sex in a bathroom at a Denver Public Library branch, the affidavit states.
The document also revealed a Facebook conversation between Stastny and a former co-worker in which she confessed to the illicit meetups, including having sex in a car, KDVR reported.
“Let’s just say I f–ked up a bit,” Stastny wrote, according to the affidavit. “I definitely slept with him.”
Stastny, who was arrested in September 2019, also told investigators she gave the juvenile inmate several thousand dollars and claimed he “had complete control over her,” KMGH reported at the time.
Stastny was put on leave after the allegations surfaced in May 2019 and Cherry Creek School District officials said they had already decided not to renew her contract prior to the accusations. She started working for the district in January 2017, KMGH reported.
Stastny was married when she was arrested, KDVR reported. She and her husband reportedly filed for divorce two months later.
