AK-47 rifle, nine bullets found in passenger’s bag inside commercial vehicle
A passenger who was inside a commercial vehicle going to Delta State has been arrested after he was found with an AK-47 rifle and nine bullets in his bag inside the vehicle, the Delta State Police Command announced on Friday, August 27.
The man, whose name was given as Davison Edehede, aged 34 years, was arrested by operatives of the Safer-Highway teams stationed between Delta/Edo boundary along Sapele-Benin highway during a stop-and-search duty.
The policemen were said to have flagged down a Nissan Maxima commercial vehicle and asked all the passengers to come down. During the search of the bag of Edehede, an AK-47 rifle and nine bullets were found in the bag.
According to a statement by the state police command through its acting Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, on the Facebook Wall of the command, upon the discovery of the gun and bullets, he was promptly arrested and he is currently being interrogated by the police.
The statement added that he will be prosecuted after the conclusion of the investigation.
According to the statement: “The Safer-Highway teams stationed between Delta/Edo boundary along Sapele-Benin Expressway, while on stop-and-search duty, intercepted a white Nissan Maxima commercial car (registration number withheld by me).
“The vehicle was flagged down for search. Upon searching the vehicle, one AK-47 rifle with breech number 7165 and nine rounds of 7.62mm live bullets were recovered inside the bag of one of the passengers, one Davison Edehede, aged 34 years, of Ugbor road Ukpaka area of Warri.
“He was promptly arrested and he is being interrogated by the policemen. He will be prosecuted after the conclusion of the investigation.”
