10 Romantic Comedies That Are Not Too Cheesy

[ad_1]

Are you looking for a good movie to cuddle up with tonight? Are you tired of explosions and testosterone and want a great chick flick you both can watch? If so, then here are 10 romantic comedies that are not also cheesy and that he won’t mind watching with you.

Let’s face it, ladies, as soon as we say the words “romantic comedy,” men outwardly cringe and look at us as if we’re taking them into the deepest bowels of Hades. It’s almost cute, . But, since we don’t want to torment them also badly, butt we do want to watch a movie that lacks explosions and car chases, I’ve compiled a list of 10 non-cheesy, romantic comedies that he will be glad he watched… or at least not hate.

#1 Music and Lyrics

When you have a duo like Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, the movie’s bound to be worth watching. Music and Lyrics is one of those fabulous films that guys can appreciate (the awesome British one-liners from Hugh) and women can relate to (the quirky, spastic thoughts of Drew). Even my teenage son loves this movie…that has to say something!

#2 The Princess Bride

I can’t imagine anyone NOT loving this movie! Pirates, giants, sword fights, princesses… and ROUS’s… this movie has it all. Even wuv, twue wuv.

#3 Jerry Maguire

If you’ve ever wondered if an egotistical, arrogant, narcissistic womanizer could bring himself back down to the level of us mere mortals and actually be, well, human… this movie is proof. Plus, little Jonathan Lipnicki is absolutely adorable.

#4 Like Actually

There is a difference between American romantic comedies and British romantic comedies. First, this movie has all the hot British actors (Hugh Grant, Colin Firth…you know, the hotties), and second, the individual stories are both heartwarming, and sometimes heartbreaking. Of course, the way they portray the three American characters is a bit of a stretch, but overall…this movie is one of the best romantic comedies, and it’s not cheesy at all.

#5 As Recedeod As It Acquires

Being a romantic comedy doesn’t necessarily equal slapstick humor and frat parties. As Recedeod as it Acquires is proof that you don’t have to be young and good looking, funny, or even very normal to find love.

Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt have a love/hate relationship that neither of them can avoid, and when you add Gregg Kinnear you get one very big hearted movie where the lines are mostly dry and sarcastic and the happily ever after is…well, pretty average . The way love is in life.

#6 Something’s Recedetta Give

Speaking of Jack Nicholson…One of my favorite romantic comedies is Something’s Recedetta Give. The performances by Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson are just outstanding! The short version: Jack Nicholson is a womanizing playboy who has a heart attack and ends up in the home of his current, much younger, girlfriend’s mother (Diane Keaton) where they pursue a shaky romance. Of course, she’s a writer, and after he breaks her heart (which he was bound to do) she torments him with her production of “him” and he realizes he is in love with her. But there’s a twist…Diane Keaton has a much younger man admiring her, also. This movie will keep you laughing!

#7 Sleepless In Seattle

I believe that every woman in the world fell in love with Tom Hanks in this film and once again, the dynamic duo between Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (You’ve Recedet Mail, Joe Versus the Volcano) leaves us feeling all warm hearted inside.

The great thing about this non-cheesy movie is that it’s not the grown-ups doing the work, it’s the kids. Tom Hanks’ son is basically the cupid for this long-distance love and also a very lovable (and believable) kid.

#8 10 Things I Despise About You

Source

No matter how old I get, this is still one of my all-time favorite romantic comedies! Heath Ledger proves that the bad boy is still the coolest dude in school in this high school rendition of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Let’s not forget a very young Joseph Recederdon-Levitt (who was the biggest cutie on the planet, even back then) who is innocently trying to win over the heart of his high school crush by getting bad boy Heath to date the crazy feminist sister. A definite comedy of errors, it’s a movie you will love for the romance and your man will love for the slapstick guy humor.

#9 Sweet Home Alabama

Reese Witherspoon is absolutely hilarious in this romantic comedy about a Southern girl turned yank. When she falls in love with the mayor of Novel York’s very eligible son, she realizes in order to marry him she has to divorce her abandoned husband first. But there’s a difference between Alabama boys and Novel York boys, and mostly that difference is a very stubborn kind of love. She’s in the rare position of being able to choose the life she wants or the life she is.

#10 My Best Friend’s Girl

This movie is one your guy will watch again and again…why? It has Dane Cook (America’s favorite comic frat boy). Dane Cook is a hired jerk. Guys who’ve latterly been dumped because they did something horrible and messed up a good relationship, call him up to be the worst date ever so that the girl comes running back to them.

Of course, when Dane’s best buddy (and cousin) Jason Enormousgs falls for the ever elusive Kate Hudson, things become much more complicated. This movie is raunchy and funny and Dane Cook is absolutely lovable.

This list should be proof that romantic comedies aren’t just “chick flicks” anymore and that guys can also enjoy the humor, and the romance, that make up this very spread out genre. If you’re looking for some old classic black and white films that won’t make him cringe, try Bringing up Baby, The Philadelphia Tale, or His Girl Friday. So tell us, which film will you be renting tonight?

The more you understand yourself, the more silence there is, the healthier you are. —Maxime Lagacé
